The Ohio State Buckeyes ended their season with a 12-2 record and two straight losses after falling to the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl

Ohio State came out flat after just over three weeks off, was held scoreless in the first half, and trailed 14-0 at halftime. For the second game in a row, the Buckeyes failed to punch it in the end zone during some of their drives into the red zone, and now their season is over.

Ohio State loses second player to transfer portal after loss to Miami

According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett, Ohio State TE Jelani Thurman will enter the transfer portal when it opens on Friday. Thurman has spent the last three seasons with the Buckeyes and played in 33 games with Ohio State. The news comes instantly after the Buckeyes lost to Miami, so this decision was already made before the game. Thurman joins WR Bryson Rodgers as the two players set to hit the portal from Columbus.

Thurman played in 13 games this season and made seven catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. The Georgia native made six catches over his first two years with the Buckeyes. Thurman is an athletic tight end at 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, but never carved out a role with the Buckeyes.

Max Klare is Ohio State’s top pass catcher at tight end, and Will Kacmarek is their top blocker. Bennett Christian and freshman TE Nate Roberts both played over Thurman this season, most of the time as well.

Ohio State losing Thurman isn’t unexpected, and it’ll have a slew of players who exit through the transfer portal. The timing of the news coming right after the game may sit just a bit awkward, however.
