The Ohio State Buckeyes are off to a terrific start with recruiting in the class of 2027. Ohio State has nine commitments so far and the No. 3-ranked class in the country, per 247 Sports.

Since the Buckeyes’ season ended in early January, the coaching staff has been busy with the transfer portal and is now back to recruiting.

Ohio State had a major five-star talent in town over the weekend, and the visit looks to have gone great.

Ohio State is a top school for five-star OL Maxwell Hiller

The Buckeyes hosted 2027 IOL Maxwell Hiller for a visit last Friday, and it marked a key point in the recruitment of the Pennsylvania native. Hiller came away from the visit looking forward to an official visit down the road. For Ohio State, it’s great news for a major recruit right in Penn State’s backyard.

“They said they will develop me and I’m a priority for them,” Hiller said via Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. “I have a chance of playing early but it’s not a given you have to work, which is great. I feel like that’s real because whoever tells a high school offensive lineman they’re gonna start right away is BC you know, because it’s a developmental position. You gotta work!”

Ohio State has three commitments already on the offensive line, with two of them in-state. Kellen Wymer and Mason Wilt are in-state recruits listed as three-star offensive tackles, but it’s unclear if they’ll play tackle or guard. Additionally, Ohio State has a commitment from Virginia OT Brody McNeel in the class.

Getting Hiller on campus was huge for the Buckeyes even as an offseason unofficial visit. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound recruit is a top-10 player in the class and No. 1 interior offensive lineman, per 247 Sports Composite.

Ohio State is looking to land more blue-chip talent out of state along the offensive line, and Hiller would play right into that.

The Buckeyes have a solid foundation of in-state linemen committed, which allows them to take big swings elsewhere. Hiller and 2027 five-star OT Mike Mathews fall into that group of players the Buckeyes want to go out and get for the program.

Ohio State is well on its way with Hiller after the recent visit.
