With the Ohio State Buckeyes back on the football field for a few weeks for spring practice it’s a good time to get a look at the 2026 team.

Ohio State has 51 new players and they return some key pieces like QB Julian Sayin and WR Jeremiah Smith. Spring is often about getting the new guys ramped up, and the Buckeyes have a lot of them between the transfer portal haul and freshmen.

One of the more exciting freshmen in Columbus is RB Legend Bey, whom the team beat out to land over the Tennessee Vols in his recruitment. Bey is set to be a player the Buckeyes use a lot, like Curtis Samuel, at wide receiver and running back.

Legend Bey is dealing with an undisclosed injury for Ohio State this spring

There’s been a lot of hype already around the Ohio State freshman, but the hype is on pause as Bey has been dealing with a minor injury for the Buckeyes.

“Legend’s been out here for a couple of practices,” Day said. “Hopefully, we can get him back here soon.”

Bey missing any spring time isn’t great news considering there were reps to be had with Ohio State’s top two running backs Bo Jackson and Isaiah West limited with injuries. Florida transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson is picking up reps, as well as redshirt freshman Turbo Rogers and true freshman Favour Akih.

Ohio State fought to land Bey out of high school, due to his pure athletic ability as a 5-foot-10, 177-pound athlete from Texas, and the explosiveness he could add in the future. Bey played quarterback in high school out of what was best for the team, but Ohio State’s going to get him into space as a weapon at the college level.

The good news is it’s only a minor injury for Bey, and he will be able to rebound from the setback. But the downside is that any time missed during the spring can be impactful because there are only so many spring practices in an offseason, especially for newcomers.
