The transfer portal opened on Friday, so the Ohio State Buckeyes are going to stay busy just after their season ended against Miami in the Cotton Bowl.

Ohio State has already lost several players to the transfer portal, though none really came as a shock. The Buckeyes’ most notable departure so far is RB James Peoples, who ended the season as the team’s No. 4 running back. Now that the portal is open, the Buckeyes are going to be looking to bring in players too.

A top defender in the transfer portal is set to visit the Buckeyes

Pittsburgh transfer LB Rasheem Biles will be visiting the Buckeyes on Monday, Dec. 5, in what is a big visit for Ohio State. Biles may be the top linebacker, if not the top defender, in the portal and he’s also a Columbus native. Ohio State has been the school linked to the Pittsburgh transfer the most so far.

Biles was a three-star recruit out of Pickerington Central that the Buckeyes did not offer. Biles first broke onto the scene as a sophomore in 2024 when he posted 81 tackles, six sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception for the Panthers. Biles has three defensive touchdowns over the last two seasons as a true playmaker on that side of the ball. The 6-1, 220-pound junior would fit like a glove in Ohio State’s defense.

As a junior this past season, Biles logged 100 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Out of high school, Pittsburgh was the top school to offer Biles. Now, he’s going to have plenty of opportunities, as well as a high NIL value.

Ohio State’s need for Rasheem Biles is clear

The Buckeyes are set to lose their top two linebackers to the NFL after this season. Losing Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese are going to be tough players to replace for Ohio State.

Next up in the room are Payton Pierce, Riley Pettijohn, and Tarvos Alford. Pierce was often the No. 3 linebacker this year for Ohio State, while Pettijohn and Alford both saw action as true freshmen. Pettijohn and Alford very well could slot into major playing time next year, but adding a star like Biles uplifts the room dramatically.
