Bulletin board material can be somewhat overrated. For college football, many people cling to it as a narrative at times. When it comes to the Ohio State Buckeyes and their opponents, neither side should need addition motivation to earn a victory during the College Football Playoff.
A Buckeyes superstar expects his team to come out on top in their next pivotal game and set up their path to an opportunity that all of them would be looking forward to as the bracket unfolds.
Buckeyes WR Jeremiah Smith predicts a rematch with Indiana during the CFP
The Ohio State star wideout isn’t shying away from showing his confidence in his team. Ahead of the team’s matchup with Miami, he predicted that the Buckeyes will get another chance to beat Indiana this postseason. With that, Smith also locked in a prediction of a win over the Hurricanes this week (and more).
With Ohio State on the opposite side of the bracket as Indiana, Smith’s prediction projects that both will make it to the CFP national title game. He’s preparing as though they’re the top two teams in all of college football, which certainly may be the case.
Keep in mind that the loss to Indiana was the only blemish on the schedule for Ohio State ahead of CFP play. The Hoosiers won the Big Ten Championship over the Buckeyes.
Smith did make an intriguing comparison when asked about the Hurricanes, though. He compared them to the Hoosiers. That could be due to some exciting offensive passing games weapons, along with gritty defensive depth upfront and on the back end.
I discussed the last Ohio State-Indiana matchup with Brandon Little, who covers the Buckeyes here for A to Z Sports. He is expecting a bounce back performance from Smith’s squad.
“Ohio State played Indiana in what was a crazy week for them overall. Just days before the Big Ten Championship, news broke that the Buckeyes would be losing offensive coordinator Brian Hartline to South Florida after the season. The Buckeyes just so happened to lay down an offensive stinker against Indiana where they scored just 10 points.
Ohio State had the ball in the red zone twice late with a chance to take the lead and was unable to score points either time. Flash forward a few weeks and Ryan Day is now calling plays for an Ohio State offense that has its stars as healthy as they’ve been. If Ohio State can string together a couple of wins, it very well could be a Big Ten title game in a month.” — Brandon Little, A to Z Sports
Smith was a unanimous All-American this season, totaling 80 receptions for 1,086 yards and 11 touchdowns.
