One of Ohio State’s newest coaches has received his first commitment with the Buckeyes and it continues what has been a hot weekend on the trail.
Safeties coach Matt Guerreieri received a commitment from 2025 S DeShawn Stewart, who is the fourth player to commit in the class in the last three days. Student Appreciation Day was held on Saturday and it is always a big weekend for the Buckeyes with their recruits.
Stewart is the high school teammate of De’Zie Jones, who is a four-star wide receiver who committed to the Buckeyes yesterday. Since Friday, four-star players DE London Merritt and LB Tarvos Alford have also committed to Ohio State.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Stewart is for first safety to commit in the class. Ranked No. 284 nationally, according to 247 Composite, Stewart is the 10th player to commit for the class of 2025. So far, eight of those 10 players are on the defensive side of the football.
Recruiting on the east coach continues to be a point of emphasis for Ohio State, as Stewart is another one coming from DePaul Catholic in New Jersey.
According to 247 team rankings, Ohio State has the third-best recurring class in 2025 right now trailing just Notre Dame and LSU. The Fighting Irish have 19 commits and the Tigers have 11 compared to Ohio State’s 10.

The Buckeyes could be on “Boom” alert.
