One transfer from the defensive side of the football for the Ohio State Buckeyes has already found his new home.
Nigel Glover is transferring back to Northwestern, where he signed out of high school before ultimately landing with the Buckeyes when Pat Fitzgerald was let go by the Wildcats.
Glover did not appear in a game last season for the Buckeyes as a freshman. The transfer is not at all a surprise, as it would be a tough nut to crack for Glover to get onto the field this season in Columbus. With Cody Simon, Sonny Styles, C.J. Hicks, Arvell Reese, and Gabe Powers all likely in front of Glover on the depth chart, the move made sense. Simon’s decision to come back and the position switch for Styles are both things that put Glover in a bad spot, even if it helped the Buckeyes in the bigger picture.
Current freshman Garrett Stover and Payton Pierce are two players that Ohio State is excited about and that could have ended up higher on the depth chart than Glover as well.
Just before the transfer window closes, Glover becomes the screen player to transfer out this go around. Dallan Hayden, Cedrick Hawkins, Ja’Had Carter, Kyion Grayes, and Enokk Vimahi all have found new homes. The transfer portal was more favorable to Ohio State with additions like Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins, and Will Howard.
Ohio State would need a rash of injuries to happen at linebacker to feel the transfer much at all, but it is not something that can be ruled out from happening. Glover will have four years of eligibility remaining now at Northwestern. Making the move back to the Wildcats will give Glover a more realistic chance at getting on the field during his redshirt freshman season.
Ohio State will travel to Chicago to play Northwestern at Wrigley Field on Nov. 16.
