Cade Stover had an interesting career at Ohio State moving from the defensive side of the football to the offensive side and now he’s moving on to the NFL.

With pick No. 123 in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans used a fourth-round pick on Stover to reunite with his former Buckeye teammate C.J. Stroud.

Stover was the third Buckeye selected to this point with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Hall Jr. already having their names called.

In the 2019 recruiting class, Stover was one of the top-rated linebackers in the class. As a freshman, Stover played in one game and redshirted, then played in just two games as a sophomore.

It was not until 2022 when Stover took over the starting tight end job from Jeremy Ruckert and flourished. Stover was a security blanket of sorts for Stroud that season with 406 yards and five touchdowns. Tight ends haven’t really ever put up big numbers with the Buckeyes, but Stover was a weapon for the Buckeyes.

“It would mean so much to go back with C.J. (Stroud),” Stover said at the combine. “I couldn't tell you how much respect and how close I really was with that guy, just for his pure knack of wanting to win and my pure knack of wanting to win. I would love nothing more than to go reunite with him.”

In 2023 with much lesser quarterback play, Stover totaled 576 yards and five touchdowns. The chemistry that Stover already has with Stroud will help his transition to the NFL.

Dalton Schultz is the guy for Houston and they have Brevin Jordan as well, Stover will likely start as the third tight end and could see some time on special teams as a rookie.

Simply put, there was not w better landing spot in the draft for “Farmer Gronk” and now he is heading to Texas.
