Ohio State Buckeyes open fall camp with quite the surprise on their roster as they prepare for the Texas Longhorns
A bit of news for the Ohio State Buckeyes as they open fall camp.
Ohio State is back on the practice field Thursday to begin fall camp and prepare for the 2025 college football season. The Buckeyes are looking to run it back after last year’s National Championship and will open the season with a tough test against the Texas Longhorns.
With fall camp underway, all eyes are on the quarterback competition. Sophomore Julian Sayin and junior Lincoln Kienholz are battling to replace Will Howard as the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback.
While the quarterback battle will draw plenty of attention, there’s already an unexpected storyline unrelated to the position.
Former Oklahoma State signee joins Ohio State turning down multiple Power Four offers
One notable new addition for the Buckeyes is Isaiah Kema, a former three-star recruit in the class of 2023 who originally signed with Oklahoma State before taking a mission trip for two years to New Zealand.
Kema received over 25 Division I offers, including from programs like Texas A&M, Illinois, Kansas, and Nebraska. Although he was part of the 2023 class, he is now considered a freshman. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman will compete for a spot on the back end of the depth chart and look to rise as his career develops.
A potential connection that may have led Kema to Columbus is former Oklahoma State coach Charlie Dickey, who is now on staff with the Buckeyes. Kema has the potential to eventually earn a scholarship, and that wouldn’t be a surprise.
Ohio State’s fall camp roster features 121 players, with 90 currently on scholarship.
We’re now just a month away from the season opener against Texas — football season is basically here, folks.
