Ohio State Buckeyes already had to hold off two major Big Ten programs who were trying to steal away their possible QB of the future
More QB news for the Buckeyes and it should come as no surprise.
Ohio State named its starting quarterback for the 2025 season on Monday, with sophomore Julian Sayin set to take the field against the Texas Longhorns.
At quarterback, the Buckeyes are in a strong position for the foreseeable future. Former five-star recruit Tavien St. Clair is waiting in the wings and is expected to take over after Sayin. The Buckeyes also appear to have their quarterback lined up after St. Clair, having already fended off two major Big Ten programs for a highly touted prospect.
Four-star 2027 quarterback Brady Edmunds was drawing serious interest from Oregon and Penn State but both schools were unable to flip his commitment to Ohio State. Ranked as the No. 8 quarterback in his class by the 247Sports Composite, Edmunds was heavily pursued by both schools before they backed off.
“A few months ago, Oregon and Penn State were especially trying hard to flip Edmunds, but since he’s made it clear he’s locked in with the Buckeyes, he hasn’t heard from those two programs or really any other teams recently,” 247Sports’ Adam Gorney reported.
Edmunds, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback from Huntington Beach, California, has been committed to Ohio State since December of last year. He plans to be in Columbus for the season opener against Texas and has already emerged as a key recruiter for the Buckeyes’ 2027 class. That type of leadership is exactly what you want from a quarterback before he even arrives on campus—something St. Clair also demonstrated ahead of his arrival in Columbus.
Oregon and Penn State both recognized Edmunds’ talent, which is why they pushed so hard for him, but the Buckeyes have secured their future signal-caller.
