One of Ohio State’s recent big moves has already fizzled out and it’s done so before he was ever really able to get started.

Bill O’Brien is heading to Boston College to be the next head coach there and leaves the Buckeyes just shortly after being hired to take over play-calling.

Ohio State was not completely blindsided by the move, as O’Brien has been in the hunt for the job for over a week at minimum. Former defensive coordinator in Columbus, Jeff Hafley, took the job to be the defensive coordinator opening with the Green Bay Packers. That is how this job became open for O’Brien.

"It isn't one of those situations where you take one guy out and put another guy in there,” head coach Ryan Day said on the possibility of O'Brien leaving. “We'll have contingency plans in place. Hopefully, we don't go down that road, but if we do, we'll adapt."

Right after believing you have a new plan in place and your play-caller for the 2024 season, you don’t. That’s a tough pill to swallow even in February. Spring football will be starting before long and Day had just made the big choice to give up play calling.

Ohio State is now on the search for what direction they’ll go next at offensive coordinator, it very well could be a pretty big name that is picking up rumors that you can read about here.
