The 2025 recruiting class will massively impact the future of college football. With NIL continuing to evolve and factor into transfer decisions, rosters are only set for months at a time. Bringing in elite talent and getting freshmen on the field sooner than later might be the biggest ticket to sustained success and avoiding major transfer losses.

The Blue Chip commitment rate for 2025 has been calculated as the class has mostly made its intentions known. See where the Ohio State Buckeyes rank compared to key foes like Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan below.

Historically, teams with Blue Chip rates above 50 percent are more likely to compete for conference championships and national titles. For instance, powerhouses like Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State consistently boast Blue Chip rates above this threshold, and they frequently dominate the sport.

Ohio State, currently ranking third with 85 percent of its 26 commits qualifying, actually has the second-best overall class for 2025. Both of those marks could dip if they lose 5-star cornerback Na'eem Offord, who Oregon and Auburn are heavily courting.

Regardless, the Buckeyes are just barely behind the Ducks and Bulldogs. It's nice to see them ahead of the nation's top-ranked recruiting class for 2025, Alabama. Michigan is ranked 12th overall in the class and fifth in blue chip rate.

The Blue Chip rate in college football refers to a metric that measures the percentage of a team’s recruits who are classified as "blue chip" prospects—generally, 4- or 5-star players. These rankings are assigned by major recruiting services such as 247Sports, Rivals, or ESPN, and they indicate the top-tier talent in high school football.

A high Blue Chip rate is considered a key indicator of a team's future success, as programs that consistently sign top-ranked recruits tend to perform better on the field.

The Blue Chip rate has become a quick reference for gauging whether a team has the talent to compete at the highest level. It reflects the depth and quality of a team’s recruiting classes.

It offers insights into how a program builds its roster and its potential for sustained success in college football’s highly competitive environment.
