Recruiting for the class of 2026 has been up and down for the Ohio State Buckeyes. They’re once again on track to finish with a top-10 class when all is said and done, but it might not be quite where they hoped to land.

With NIL, revenue sharing, and the current state of the recruiting landscape, there are no sure locks when it comes to commitments. Ohio State has been in a strong position with multiple targets this cycle, only to miss out when decision time arrives.

That was once again the case over the weekend.

The Buckeyes were firmly in the mix for four-star Collins Hill (GA) defensive lineman Deuce Geralds, who announced his commitment this past Saturday. Geralds ultimately chose LSU over Ohio State, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Michigan.

Geralds is ranked as the No. 95 player nationally and the No. 12 defensive lineman in the class. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound defender would have been Ohio State’s highest-rated defensive line commitment for 2026, despite the Buckeyes already having three interior linemen committed.

So far, Ohio State has landed three-star defensive tackles Jamir Perez, Cameron Brickle, and Damari Simeon. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson currently has just one true edge rusher committed in the class — Khary Wilder.

This past weekend’s loss was another tough blow as Ohio State sits at No. 9 in the 2026 class rankings with 21 total commitments.
