There's no environment like being in The Horseshoe for The Game against Michigan. Ohio State is looking to bring in the next generation of star Buckeyes and hopes this weekend will net several victories beyond what will happen on the field.
In all honesty, they could use it.
Ohio State's recruiting class has faced challenges over the past two weeks, with several players opting to go elsewhere due to the program's reluctance to increase NIL compensation compared to rival schools.
The coaching staff has valid reasons for not wanting to overpay for recruits who haven't yet taken the field for the Buckeyes, and while it may be frustrating, that's the current reality.
This weekend, Ohio State is set to host a significant group of recruits, and recent developments have solidified this trend. Even more top prospects have announced their plans to visit Columbus for this iconic rivalry matchup.
Key storylines include whether 5-star target David Sanders will attend and the Buckeyes' ability to fend off Auburn in the recruitment of 5-star cornerback Na’eem Offord.
There’s potential for more movement in the coming days, with the Buckeyes anticipating additions to their class as the early signing period approaches in about a week. Wednesday brought some good news as at least one recruit indicated he will remain committed to Ohio State, despite interest from other programs.
Zech Fort (Bradenton, Florida/IMG Academy) will be watching Ohio State's defense this Saturday as he observes Caleb Downs and Lathan Ransom in action in the secondary. Ranked as the No. 92 player nationally and the eighth-best safety in the 2026 class by the 247Sports Composite, Fort is a top safety who has been impressed by the Buckeyes early in the recruiting cycle.
Additionally, receiver prospect Brody Keefe (Charlotte, North Carolina/Myers Park), who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds, will also be present for the rivalry game. Keefe, with over 20 offers including one from Ohio State, is currently ranked No. 314 nationally and is the 48th best player at his position according to the 247Sports Composite.
With two receiver commitments already secured, it will be interesting for the Buckeyes and coach Hartline to see who they pursue next. Keefe is certainly on their radar and will be back in town this weekend.
On the defensive side, Simeon Caldwell (Jacksonville, Florida/The Bolles School) is traveling up from Florida to attend this noon matchup.
Another talented prospect, Caldwell is ranked No. 70 nationally and is the fifth-best player in his position category by the 247Sports Composite.
Caldwell already holds an offer from Ohio State, making this visit a pivotal opportunity for the coaching staff to strengthen their relationship, as well as for Caldwell to experience the thrilling atmosphere of a Buckeyes game day.
