The Ohio State Buckeyes are nearly unanimous in top 25 polls across the college football world, and it’s not hard to see why. Ryan Day and Matt Patricia have this program looking like a major threat and favorite to repeat as national champions. A Week 7 matchup against Illinois awaits the Buckeyes as their next challenge.

The No. 17 Fighting Illini host the Buckeyes at noon on Saturday, and this is a good chance for the Buckeyes to further bolster their resume. Some shine has come off their Week 1 win against Texas, which hasn’t met expectations in 2025. A big win on the road will further push the Buckeyes into the unanimous top spot on expert polls.

The A to Z Top 25 expert poll has the Buckeyes No. 1 right now, but they’re seeing contenders get more votes as the weeks go by. Here’s the latest from our rankings.

Ohio State remains No. 1 in expert top 25 polls

With Ohio State earning seven-of-12 first-place votes and 295 points total amongst our voters, the Buckeyes are still fairly comfortably atop our poll. Miami sits second with four first-place nods, followed by Oregon. No one else is especially close.

Here’s what some of our analysts said about Miami and Oregon. We didn’t have a blurb about the Buckeyes, but as someone who thinks they’ll comfortably win it all this year, I’m surprised anyone else got a top vote.

“Miami has the eye test and the resume of the top team in the country. The Hurricanes have controlled every game they’ve been in and boast wins over Notre Dame, USF, Florida, and Florida State. No one else has a resume that comes close to what the Canes have pulled off over the season’s first six weeks.” – Craig Smith, A to Z Sports Miami.

We also didn’t write up Oregon since they fell in line alongside the regular polls, but here are our team’s thoughts on Ducks quarterback Dante Moore.

“The career for Dante Moore didn’t get off to a great start after signing with the UCLA Bruins. The 6-3, 210-pound pocket passer had his fair share of struggles as a freshman under Chip Kelly, but had the chance to learn behind Dillon Gabriel last season in Eugene. Now an outstanding starter for the Ducks, Moore has thrown for 1,210 yards and 14 touchdowns, including nearly a 75 percent completion rate and just one interception. Moore has put himself firmly into the conversation as the top quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.”
