Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has set a new school record for most receptions.

With three catches during the College Football Playoff championship game, he surpassed K.J. Hill, who held the previous record with 201 receptions for 2,332 yards between 2016 and 2019.

Egbuka's record-breaking catch occurred with 8:54 remaining in the second quarter against Notre Dame, where he secured a Will Howard pass at the Notre Dame 31-yard line and powered his way down to the 20 for a first down. The Buckeyes were aiming to break a 7-7 tie on that drive.

Interestingly, many Ohio State fans mistakenly thought Egbuka already held the record, as the NCAA's record book only includes postseason stats starting from 2002.

Entering Monday's game, Egbuka had 74 receptions for 947 yards this season, including 15 catches for 204 yards in the Buckeyes' three playoff games. He caught at least one pass in 41 consecutive games.
