Despite a shaky beginning, Will Howard put together quite the performance against Iowa. The Ohio State Buckeyes lapped the Hawkeyes 35-7, in large part because of Howard's excellent second-half showing.
On Monday, Howard earned recognition as one of the best eight quarterbacks of Week 6. The Davey O'Brien Award will announce the winner of this week's nomination on Tuesday afternoon.
For the first time this season, Howard has been recognized for his standout performance against the Hawkeyes. He notched five total touchdowns, surpassing his incompletions, which stood at four.
He connected on 21 out of 25 attempts, throwing for 209 yards and four touchdowns, alongside one interception. Additionally, Howard contributed on the ground, rushing for 28 yards and securing another touchdown.
Up to this point in the season, Howard is placed eighth nationally with a passer rating of 178.0, having completed 71.5% of his throws (93-of-130) for 1,248 yards, alongside 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Impressively, he has also achieved a rushing touchdown in four consecutive games.
This week's "Great 8" list also features a name well-known to Ohio State fans: former OSU quarterback Kyle McCord. McCord has earned a spot on the list for the third time this season following his role in Syracuse's overtime victory against UNLV.
Other athletes making the list include Max Brosmer from Minnesota, Bryson Daily of Army, Eli Holstein from Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia, Will Rogers of Washington, and Miami's Cam Ward.
C.J. Stroud was named a season finalist for the award in 2022.
