After one dream season in Columbus with the Ohio State Buckeyes, quarterback Will Howard is back in his home state of Pennsylvania, embarking on an NFL career.

Howard is competing for a roster spot with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

In the end, Howard went later than many expected, but he landed in a good situation with the Steelers.

Former Ohio State QB Will Howard is ready to hit the ground running in Pittsburgh.

After being drafted, Howard was eager to get to work and learn the offense as quickly as possible, according to Devin Jackson of The Inquirer.

“On Sunday, Howard reached out to Steelers quarterbacks coach Tom Arth for plays, according to his mother, much to the delight of the Steelers coaching staff.

‘[Arth] wrote [Will] back and said, “Hey, we were going to give you the weekend off, but this is why we drafted you — because it’s the kind of worker you are,”’ Maureen said.”

That’s just the kind of player Howard is. From the moment he arrived at Ohio State, he was a leader — someone others naturally followed. When the Buckeyes needed to find the right quarterback after Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal, Howard proved to be the answer.

Howard isn’t expected to start right away for the Steelers. The current plan is for Pittsburgh to eventually bring in Aaron Rodgers, with Howard serving as the No. 3 quarterback behind Mason Rudolph for a year. After that, he’ll have the opportunity to climb the depth chart.

Either way, Howard is already showing he has the right mindset for transitioning to the NFL — and sometimes, it’s the smallest actions that say the most.
