Ohio State football takes important step toward landing elite 5-star wide receiver without Brian Hartline in the picture
A key step for the Buckeyes and their chase of a top recruiting target.
The biggest coaching change the Ohio State Buckeyes dealt with this offseason was offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline leaving the program to become a head coach.
Hartline has been the top recruiter for the Buckeyes under head coach Ryan Day and those are big shoes Ohio State had to fill. Bringing in Arthur Smith from the NFL to call plays and Cortez Hankton to be the wide receivers coach is about as good as the Buckeyes could have done.
Early signs are showing that Ohio State will be just fine recruiting wide receivers in the future.
Ohio State will get an official visit from the No. 1 wide receiver in the country
2027 Lawrence North (IN) WR Monshun Sales is a major target for the Buckeyes and they’ll receive an official visit from the top receiver recruit on June 12. Sales will take additional visits to Indiana (April 24), Alabama (May 29), and Miami (June 19).
According to 247Sports composite rankings, Sales is the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 8 overall player in the class of 2027. Ohio State already has a commitment from the No. 13 overall player in the class, WR Jamier Brown. Pairing Sales and Brown together in a class would be a game-changing hail for the Buckeyes.
Sales has already started to build a relationship with Hankton at Ohio State since he was hired as the wide receivers coach. The close proximity to Indiana has allowed the 6-foot-5, 195-pound wideout to get on campus in Columbus multiple times so far.
Ohio State is looking to land either Sales or high four-star WR Eric McFarland in this class and has locked in official visits with both players. Alabama is seen as the early favorite for Sales, but Ohio State clearly has a chance with an official visit scheduled.
Spring football is right around the corner and official visit season is approaching as we get into the warmer months. Ohio State getting the No. 1 wide receiver following Hartline’s exit is significant.
