National insider names Ohio State as school to watch for the No. 1 player in transfer portal — and he’s going to command a large bag
Ohio State has been connected to a player who is set to command seven figures on the NIL front.
The Ohio State Buckeyes learned this past weekend that they will play the Miami Hurricanes in the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff. That game will take place in Arlington, Texas, on Dec. 31, and the winner will play either Ole Miss or Georgia.
While most of the focus should be on the future opponent, the Buckeyes have to navigate the upcoming transfer portal window. When the portal opens, Ohio State is expected to be pretty active. The Buckeyes are already being connected to one of the top players set to be available.
Ohio State connected to Penn State DE Chaz Coleman
The moment Penn State DE Chaz Coleman made it known that he would enter the portal in the first week of January, Ohio State made sense. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Ohio State is the “school to watch” with Coleman, and he’s expected to command seven figures on the NIL front.
Coleman had just three tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble as a true freshman in 2024, but he’s flashed his potential, which shows passing rushing value. Ohio State got involved too late in Coleman’s recruitment, not offering him until November of his senior season, after he was already committed to Penn State. Ohio State received an official visit from Coleman, but he ended up signing with Penn State.
The coaching change at Penn State is why a player like Coleman is available. Some expect him to be the next Abdul Carter-type player to come from the Nittany Lions. With the Buckeyes set to lose Caden Curry and potentially Kenyatta Jackson, the fit for Coleman is definitely there in 2026.
