Ohio State shook up what the future looked like at quarterback following the 2023 season and betting oddsmakers have taken notice. 

Will Howard is among the favorites to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Howard comes in tied for the second best odds behind Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Georgia’s Carson Beck, and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel. 

Howard transfers to the Buckeyes after playing four seasons at Kansas State and has been the starter for the last two years.

The outlook

Kyle McCord transferred following one year starting for Ohio State and recording 3,170 passing yards while completing 65 percent of his passes and tossing 24 touchdowns to six interceptions. Howard comes in after throwing 24 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and completing 61 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards through the air.

Howard added 353 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground and brings that running element at quarterback that Ohio State hasn’t had in a few years. Joining the Buckeyes, the expectation is that being surrounded by elite talent and better coaching will help him break out.

The Buckeyes hope to unleash a more dynamic offense in 2024 with newly hired Chip Kelly calling the plays. Expect Howard to be at the forefront of things surrounded by what could be the best supporting cast in college football. 

Treveyon Henderson returns at running back and top transfer RB Quinshon Judkins will join him. Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, and Jeremiah Smith form a very talented wideout room. 

Spring ball is right around the corner and fans will have their first chance to see Howard with what will be a new look Ohio State offense. It’s one that oddsmakers suggest that Howard is going to perform in.
