Top Ohio State wide receiver commitment earns 5-star ranking in latest recruiting update
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to dominate as WRU across college football. Their impressive 2025 recruiting class became even stronger this week as On3 finalized their top 300 prospect list. Among those who received a boost was wide receiver Quincy Porter.
The new five-star playmaker had already earned incredible hype. A to Z Sports analyst Ryan Roberts was told the following of Porter from his coach, Christian Carti.
"He’s a once in a lifetime type of kid,” Carti said. "Of course, he’s a freak athlete. That kid is like Calvin Johnson. He’s special but it’s the little things that really make Quincy special.
I’ve had an All-County wide receiver for 15 straight seasons, the only school to do that,” said Carti. "Quincy is the best one. You don’t find kids who are driven with him who are also that talented. It’s really something to appreciate.”
Porter has quickly advanced in his career after a standout senior season at Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic. Over 12 games, he made 57 receptions for 969 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. In the November update of the On300, he was recognized as a five-star recruit by On3.
During his three years at the varsity level, Porter accumulated 38 touchdowns and surpassed 2,600 receiving yards.
Standing at 6-foot-3.5 and weighing 200 pounds, Porter committed to Ohio State on June 14, 2024, choosing the Buckeyes over offers from Penn State and Michigan. Despite a strong late push from Penn State, he remained committed to Ohio State through National Signing Day.
He is ranked as the highest-rated Buckeye in the final On300 release, marking three consecutive classes in which Ohio State has secured an On3 five-star receiver.
Earlier in January, Porter took part in the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where he was recognized as a top performer by On3 among numerous elite athletes from across the nation.
“Quincy Porter looked like the top wide receiver prospect at the Navy All-American Bowl,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote. “For starters, no wideout on hand looked better physically. At 6-foot-3.5 and 200 pounds with elite arm length, Porter is how you draw them up as an outside, X-receiver. The New Jersey native pairs his considerable frame with an advanced technical skill set. He looked like the top route-runner on the East team throughout the week, showing the ability to toggle speeds and break off his routes on a dime.
“Porter also flashed strong ball skills, using great technique and hand placement. While he wasn’t always a high-volume target in practice, Porter won the majority of his reps and showed off his skills in Saturday’s game by making a handful of impressive grabs. A year after having a breakout star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith in this game, the Buckeyes have another Navy All-American Bowl standout headed to Columbus.”
