Sunday was a must-win game for the Ohio State Buckeyes if they wanted to get into the postseason for the first time in four years.

Ohio State’s 82-74 win over Purdue had to happen, as the Buckeyes needed a Quad 1 win on their resume. They led Purdue at the half and controlled the game the whole way.

John Mobley Jr. was the high man for the Buckeyes with 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting from deep. The sophomore guard had plenty to say after the game.

Ohio State’s John Mobley Jr. calls his shot for the NCAA Tournament

“Like I said before, we knew what was at stake,” Mobley said of needing to beat Purdue. “We’ve got to keep that streak going. Never lost to Purdue before, so I wanted to keep that going.”

This is where it gets interesting. Mobley was asked if he believed Ohio State would be in the NCAA Tournament.

“Got to,” Mobley said. “We’re gonna make a run, too. Promise that.”

The confidence is oozing from Mobley and it should, he’s one of the best shooters in college basketball. But to promise Ohio State will go on a run in the postseason is going to be tough to follow through on. Currently, the Buckeyes sit at 18-11 with two regular-season games remaining against Penn State and Indiana.

Ohio State is currently labeled as the last four in by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and they can’t afford to drop either of the final two regular-season games. 20 wins should get the Buckeyes into the postseason.

From there, that’s where Mobley says the noise is going to be. Ohio State is going to be a very low seed, but its second-leading scorer has already put a target on them ahead of officially making the tournament.
