What a run it has been for Ohio State since they lost to Michigan back on Nov. 30. The Buckeyes answered in the best way a team could imagine and that is winning a National Championship.

Ohio State defeated Notre Dame, 34-23, in the National Championship game in Atlanta, Georgia. Notre Dame struck first on their very first possession where QB Riley Leonard ran the ball nine times. Ohio State scored on each of their first three possessions in the first half to take a 21-7 lead into the break. Quinshon Judkins broke off a 70-yard run right out of halftime then eventually punched it in from a yard out for his third touchdown. The Buckeyes survived a punch from Notre Dame after that

It was quite a run for the Buckeyes in the first expanded College Football Playoff format. After that 13-10 loss to Michigan, Ohio State lost the opportunity to play for the Big Ten and a first-round bye in the playoff.

The response was the Buckeyes taking a road of blowing out Tennessee and No. 1 Oregon. Ohio State beat Texas 28-14 then capped it off with a win over Notre Dame tonight.

One word to describe this Ohio State run is:

Special

Expectations were not strong for the Buckeyes entering the playoff, despite having the most talented roster on paper. Offensive line injuries were something that Ohio State had to push through. The fourth straight loss to Michigan very well could have caved this team that never beat the Wolverines.

Ryan Day is now 70-10 as a head coach and four of those losses have been in the regular season to Michigan. More importantly, Day now has a National Championship on his resume. All of the talk of Day not being able to get over the hump is now over.

Ohio State took down a solid SEC team to start their run. The revenge game over Oregon was a very big moment for the Buckeyes. A tough, tough win against Texas was likely a matchup between the country’s two best teams. Notre Dame was no slouch and earned the right to be in the National Championship and the Buckeyes took care of them.

Columbus is going to be celebrating tonight and for the foreseeable future. They should as the Buckeyes are National Champions once again.
