Ohio State underwent big staff changes following its National Championship run last season. The Buckeyes had to replace both coordinators and their offensive line coach.

With Tyler Bowen coming in to be the offensive line coach, the Buckeyes could use a big boost to their offensive line recruiting. Justin Frye took the offensive line coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals and the Buckeyes were able to pry Bowen from Virginia Tech.

The Buckeyes are in pursuit of the No. 1 player in the class of 2026 and he was back on campus this past week.

2026 OT Jackson Cantwell made his second trip to Columbus and his first since the Buckeyes made staff changes. It was a key visit for Cantwell, who has the Buckeyes in his top-six schools. The trip to Columbus lasted two days and it was a chance for Cantwell to meet Bowen, which is crucial for this recruitment.

“My biggest takeaways were that their system of (offensive line) coaching is really good and that they have a winning culture,” Cantwell said, via On3.

Cantwell has not yet scheduled his official visit to Columbus but is expected to this summer. Oregon, Georgia, Missouri, Alabama, and Michigan are the other schools that Cantwell is considering.

Ohio State swung big with David Sanders Jr. last go around and came up short to Tennessee. The Buckeyes once again aren’t seen as the favorite for the No. 1 offensive tackle in 2026, but they’re in the mix and that’s all they can ask for at this point.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound Cantwell very well could be a Day 1 starter in college and he already has the build to back that up.

Ohio State has to take these big swings to get the offensive line reciting where it needs to be. Whether or not they will be able to land Cantwell, we’ll see after he wraps up his official visits this summer.
