Ohio State has to put how the regular season finished behind them if they want to find success in the College Football Playoff against Tennessee

The loss to Michigan was disappointing and it was easy to see that the offense was the culprit in the close loss.

On Monday, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly confirmed what everyone else knew about that loss to the Wolverines.

"We've been in, we have dissected the last game. We didn't put our players in the best position to succeed, and that's on us as a coaching staff,” Kelly said.

It isn’t often that you hear coaches admit that they didn’t do their job correctly, but that’s exactly what happened. If things change, this is a good thing to have been admitted as well. Ohio State showing they learned from the Michigan game and go on a run would be huge.

The Buckeyes scoring just 10 points and finishing with 175 passing yards against the Wolverines just can’t happen. Ohio State averages 254 passing yards a game and a huge part of their offense is built around getting the ball to Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka, and Carnell Tate. When the Buckeyes didn’t do that against Michigan, their offense became very stagnant.

"I think you've gotta get the ball to those guys. We're really talented on the perimeter. Sometimes guys scheme up to take those guys away. You’ll have to scheme up and be creative enough to get the ball in those guys' hands."

Establishing a run game will be important against Tennessee, but if Ohio State wants to beat the Vols they will have to stretch the field and get the ball to their playmakers.

"A playcaller can get into a rut. You get into a mindset of, 'We've gotta establish the run to win the football game,' when maybe that's not always the case. We're playing a really formidable defensive group coming in here that's well-coached and they've got really good players."

Tennessee’s defense is led by projected top-10 pick edge rusher James Pearce Jr. Pearce is a player that the Buckeyes are going to have to keep out of the backfield on Saturday.

We will soon see if the Buckeyes made the changes that they needed to. If they did, then Kelly coming out and saying this will be looked at as a good thing.
