Ohio State is a school to watch for a former five-star recruit – and it’s the second time they’ve been after him in the portal
The Buckeyes are after a player they’ve recruited numerous times in recent years.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the mix for former Penn State EDGE Chaz Coleman and he was on campus Wednesday as their top target in the transfer portal.
Ohio State has a trio of commitments from the portal and they’re after more. The Buckeyes have lost over 20 players to the portal from the back half of their roster. The latest news around who the Buckeyes are interested in includes a player they’ve gone after in the portal before.
Buckeyes are a school to watch for Missouri transfer Damon Wilson
Former Georgia Bulldog and Missouri Tigers EDGE Damon Wilson II is in the portal for a second time in his college career. The Buckeyes went after Wilson back in last year’s portal window but he chose Missouri over Georgia. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Ohio State is a school to watch for Wilson this time around.
Other schools mentioned to watch for were Miami and Texas Tech.
Wilson had a breakout season as a third-year player with nine sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss in 13 games for Missouri this past season. The former five-star high school recruit had three sacks for Georgia in 2024 with 22 tackles in 14 games.
Ohio State wouldn’t land both Coleman and Wilson, it would be a one or the other situation. Wilson is the No. 2 EDGE in the porta — and Coleman is top-ranked at the position — according to 247 Sports. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound pass rusher is a Florida native.
With the Buckeyes losing Caden Curry to graduation — and potentially Kenyatta Hanxosn to the NFL — they have to bring in proven talent off the EDGE. C.J. Hicks and Logan George were depth pass rushers who decided to hit the portal as well. Beau Atkinson and Zion Grady are next up on the depth chart — while incoming freshman Khary Wilder could earn a spot in the rotation early.
Wilson’s portal recruitment is one to monitor and it’ll be key for the Buckeyes to land a visit if they want to have a chance at landing him. Ohio State couldn’t land him out of high school, or the portal the first time around. The third time is a charm sometimes.
