It has been a tough week for the Ohio State football program on the injury front. Losing center Seth McLaughlin for the season was a tough blow to an offensive line unit that had already lost left tackle Josh Simmons for the season.

Now, the Buckeyes have to turn to the next man up and will start Carson Hinzman at center. Things aren’t all bad for the Buckeyes on the injury front right now, as they will likely get an offensive contributor back against Indiana on Saturday.

Tight end Will Kacmarek is trending toward returning to the field for Ohio State against the Hoosiers. The transfer tight end was injured against Oregon on Oct. 12 and has not played since.

“He’s had a good week of practice,” Day said on Wednesday. “We’ll see how he does tomorrow, see what he says, see what the doctor says, but he’s had a good week.”

After transferring from Ohio, Kacmarek has five catches for 58 yards and has operated as the second tight end behind Gee Scott when healthy. In Kacmarek’s absence, the Buckeyes have leaned on sophomore Jelani Thurman to make some plays.

Ohio State will take any extra help they can get for a top-five matchup with Indiana on tap. The Buckeyes have aspirations to play in the Big Ten title game, where they could get revenge against Oregon. If Ohio State wants to get there, they will need to get past the undefeated Hoosiers.

In what has been a rough week injury-wise for Ohio State, Kacmarek will be welcomed back at the right time for Ohio State, as they soon gear up for a postseason run. Every game from here on out feels like a must-win.
