Following the National Championship, a number of Ohio State Buckeyes had tough decisions to make on their futures.

Most transfer portal entrees from Ohio State were already in the portal ahead of the National Championship, but a few decided to enter during the five-day window after their win.

DT Hero Kanu decided to enter the portal after the win and the Buckeyes will see him very early next season now.

Kanu has decided to spend his last two years of college football eligibility at Texas playing for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. After entering the portal, the talented defensive tackle visited both Texas and Florida. In the end, it is the Longhorns who add a quality defensive tackle.

The interesting thing is that Kanu was set to be in the two deep on the depth chart next season. Kanu would be the top backup to Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Houston on the interior, which would have come with ample playing time.

Kanu played in all 15 games for the Buckeyes and is a run stuffer with the ability to put pressure on the quarterback. The California native had four tackles this season after recording 10 tackles and a sack a season ago.

In the 2022 recruiting class, Kanu was a top 120 player and the No. 10 overall player in the state of California. Tywone Malone, Jason Moore, and Will Smith Jr. are candidates to step up for the Buckeyes, along with three incoming freshmen.

With Kanu’s transfer destination settled, he will get a crack at his old team at least once next season, as well as a team he just defeated in the College Football Playoff. With the expanded format, he could potentially play his old team twice next season.
