Ohio State should have at least 13 players, if not more drafted next month. The Buckeyes recruit at a high level and will be ready to reload, though the roster won’t be as loaded in 2025.
New players will have breakouts on both sides of the football and one player on defense sticks out in that aspect.
LB Arvell Reese is a breakout candidate for the Buckeyes in 2025
Entering his third season with the Buckeyes, Reese is set to take a big step for Ohio State and will be a key player for their defense. Ohio State linebackers coach James Laurinaitis met with the media on Thursday and raved about the Cleveland native.
“Arvell is so talented. Like so talented. His ability to move around and position flex makes him all the more valuable,” Laurinaitis stated. “I think what we’re doing is we’re realizing everything Arvell Reese can do, and it’s a lot. He is a special talent.”
Reese provided depth for the Buckeyes last season behind Cody Simon and alongside Sonny Styles. In 2025, Reese can lock down the middle linebacker spot for the Buckeyes in place of Simon, who is now off to the NFL. Reese is a physical linebacker at 6-foot-4 and 238 pounds who likes to deliver a big hit when he can.
As a sophomore, Reese made 43 tackles (4 tackles for loss) and a half sack. The Glenville product appeared in all 16 games.
The linebackers were a strong suit for the Buckeyes last season underneath the coaching done by Laurinaitis. The former Buckeye has a talented group again in 2025 that should be led by Styles and Reese. Expect Payton Pierce to take a step forward in his sophomore season too.
Reese has a chance to be the next Glenville product that goes to the NFL through Ohio State. All of the talent is there, watch out if he puts it all together.
