Things are a lot different in today’s era of college football, much more different than it has ever been. The landscape around NIL has reshaped college football in many ways.
Ohio State built a very good roster last year and went on to win it all. Of course, it took a large amount of cash to get that done.
One impact that NIL has had is players transferring more than ever in the best interest of themselves. The team bond isn’t what it used to be, at least for some teams. Colorado OT Jordan Seaton sent out an interesting post on X Sunday
“Sports crazy Now… can’t even build a true brotherhood anymore too much …I and ME”
Ohio State CB Jermaine Mathews Jr. has a different opinion and it goes to show the strong foundation the Buckeyes have within their program. One that Colorado perhaps does not have and Seaton hasn’t been able to see what that kind of bond is like in a locker room. Mathews has a chance to be one of the top cornerbacks for the Buckeyes as a junior in 2025, as well as a leader.
Ohio State going on to win a National Championship last season after losing to Michigan doesn’t happen without a strong locker room that is united. It took some tough conversations to make the improvements needed to go and win it all, that is exactly what Ohio State did.
Every team has leaders and Ohio State had some good ones last year like Will Howard, Jack Sawyer, Cody Simon, Lathan Ransom, Donovan Jackson, TreVeyon Henderson, and more.
Interestingly enough, Ohio State recruited Seaton hard out of high school but was unable to land him. Who’s to say he would have a different view on the brotherhood in sports if he was in Columbus?
