The Ohio State Buckeyes are starting their week off with some great news in the recruiting world.
Going into Louisiana and pulling elite talent out is hard to do and the LSU Tigers don’t often let talent get away. That makes the commitment that the Buckeyes just landed even more special.
2026 five-star safety Blaine Bradford has committed to Ohio State and gives the Buckeyes their second five-star talent in the class, joining WR Chris Henry Jr.
Bradford chose the Buckeyes over LSU, Oregon, and Texas. With how Oregon has recruited defensive backs the last couple of cycles, this was big for the Buckeyes to land Bradford over them. Texas is going to continue being a contender, so keeping Bradford away from them was key too.
The 6-foot-1, 207-pound safety is the No. 1 safety in the country, according to 247 Sports Composite. Bradford is the No. 23 overall player in the state of Louisiana. A talented player that the Buckeyes had as a primary target in the class of 2026. Bradford has 30 offers to his resume and essentially every premier program was chasing him.
“Stoutly assembled safety prospect who could potentially move around the defensive back seven. Verified 6-1, 200 with frame space to keep adding mass if off-ball linebacker is a desired long-term home. Flies downhill quick-trigger pursuer vs. the run. Quick in diagnosis. Breaks down and drives through targets as a tackler. Speed-to-power ability and play strength enable playing through a block en route to the ball.” — Gabe Brooks, 247 Sports
Holding onto a commitment until signing day is tough for anyone but will especially be for Bradford. LSU will undoubtedly continue to recruit Bradford hard and try to pull him for the Buckeyes. Ohio State landing him now is a great sign and was not expected to come just yet.
The Buckeyes are now up to eight commitments in the class of 2026 with things heating up for the class.
