We are just over a week until the National Championship between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

The Ohio State Buckeyes got past Texas, while Notre Dame found their way past Penn State to move on to the big game.

When the teams match up on the field, the Fighting Irish are going to be a hit shorthanded. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman revealed on Sunday that the Fighting Irish would be without a key starter on offense.

After getting injured in the Orange Bowl against Penn State, Notre Dame starting LT Anthonie Knapp will not suit up to play in the National Championship, Freeman announced.

Additionally, the Fighting Irish could be down their starting RG Rocco Spindler’s availability is up in the air after suffering an ankle injury against Penn State. Spindler will attempt to practice this week and that will dictate his availability.

With Knapp out at left tackle, who started every game this season, Tosh Baker was his replacement against Penn State. Notre Dame could opt to go to Charles Jagusah at left tackle, who was expected to be the starter entering the season but was injured.

Ohio State has had to work through their own offensive line injuries. Josh Simmons was lost at left tackle and Seth McLaughlin is out for the season at center. The Buckeyes have had to adapt through this longer season in the expanded College Football Playoff format.

With the way that Ohio State’s defensive line has played lately, they may just be chomping at the bit with this news.

Notre Dame will look to do the same and have a week to figure out their offensive line combination ahead of the big game against Ohio State.
