Ohio State is not yet to the point where players need to decide on whether or not they will return for the following season, but one player has already made his mind up.
Tight end Will Kacmarek transferred to Ohio State from Ohio last offseason and has been the team’s No. 2 tight end this season and a key run blocker.
Kacmarek told reporters on Monday that he plans to return to Columbus for the 2025 season and exercise his fifth year of college eligibility.
Ohio State has all of their focus on Oregon, but it is notable that Kacmarek will return next season in terms of the tight end depth. Gee Scott Jr. is the leader in the room and he will be off to the NFL. Ohio State’s top tight end as a pass catcher will be Purdue transfer Max Klare, who the Buckeyes recently landed.
Jelani Thurman and Bennett Christian are due to be back next season unless either decides to transfer after the Buckeyes’ season ends, whenever that may be. Interestingly, Kacmarek has already decided that he is coming back while knowing that Klare is set to be a Buckeye as well.
Kacmarek has been used primarily as a run blocker but has six catches for 65 yards to his resume in nine games played. The transfer tight end was injured in the first matchup with Oregon and had to miss a few games. Before becoming a Buckeye, Kacmarek recorded over 200 yards in back-to-back seasons at Ohio.
Ohio State will take on Oregon at 5:00 p.m. ET in the Rose Bowl on Wednesday, which we now know will not be Kacmarek’s last game for the Buckeyes.
