Ohio State is the hottest team in college football right now with back-to-back blowout wins over Tennessee and now Oregon.

The Buckeyes are clicking on all cylinders and will now play Texas for a spot in the National Championship.

On Wednesday, the Buckeyes got off to a quick start against the Ducks and won 41-21 in the Rose Bowl game.

Following the outcome, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning told it how it is with the Ducks’ performance. In the process of doing that, Lanning opened a recent wound for the Buckeyes and the fanbase.

“Sometimes it’s not your day. I think that was us today. It wasn’t our day today. It wasn’t their day against Michigan,” Lanning said after the game.

But what’s unique about college football right now in this dynamic is that you’ve got to be playing your best ball at the end. I think anybody watching Ohio State recognizes they’re playing really good football.”

While Lanning opted to give the Buckeyes some credit, he did bring up Michigan. The Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines to end the regular season and that loss kept Ohio State out of the Big Ten Championship game. Ohio State would have played Oregon in that game if they were not upset by the Wolverines. Besides from getting the mentioning of Michigan out of the way, Lanning did give due credit.

“When you play a great team like Ohio State, you can’t not be clicking on all cylinders. And they were. They were clicking on all cylinders. We really didn’t have an ability to stop them, and we didn’t have the ability to get something going for us on offense. And we have not faced a lot of moments like this all year. It’s an unbelievable team. Coach Day and his staff have done an unbelievable job there.”

Ryan Day has been handed four straight losses by Michigan, but if the Buckeyes can stay hot the next couple of weeks people won’t really be looking at that anymore. If Ohio State can win a National Championship, Day will have righted every wrong in Columbus and everyone will be a fan of him. That is just how it goes and will go.

Losing to Michigan matters heavily unless you’re going on to win it all. Thanks to the expanded playoff format, Ohio State has an opportunity to do just that.
