Ohio State QB Will Howard has been the exact player that the Buckeyes hoped they had gotten out of the transfer portal a year ago.

Howard took over for Kyle McCord this season and has been terrific in Columbus. Howard’s play is partially why the Buckeyes are in a position to win it all in a week when they play Notre Dame.

After spending four seasons at Kansas State, Howard just gets one season in Columbus, where he has already left his mark in a big way. Wins over Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas have the Buckeyes primed to win it all.

“When I see him get around our team, when I saw him on stage tonight when I saw him embracing everybody in the locker room — this guy loves his teammates,” Ohio State HC Ryan Day said after the game. “He’s only been here a year, but in such a short period of time, he has made such an amazing impact on our team. He’s made an impact on me. There’s been times when I’m coming to work, and maybe I’m down, maybe I’m stressed, maybe I’m whatever, and this guy picks me up. He has an amazing approach to life. I told his parents that. They’ve done a great job with him, but he’s also done it himself, the positive mindset that he has.”

That is a strong opinion on Howard from Day, who has only been able to coach him for one season. As a Buckeye, Howard is having by far his best season as a college quarterback. Howard is completing 73 percent of his passes for 3,779 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Howard has added seven rushing touchdowns.

As a leader on the team, one moment that impressed Day with Howard was when the Buckeyes suffered a tough injury along the offensive line to Seth McLaughlin.

“When we lost Seth McLaughlin in practice, it was a really tough loss for us. Seth was doing a great job, and he and Seth had a great relationship. In that practice, Will showed me some of the best leadership I have ever seen.”

Just one game remains for Howard in scarlet and grey. He has already made a name for himself to be remembered in Columbus, but Howard will forever be remembered as a National Champion Buckeye if he can lead the team to one more win.
