Former Ohio State star C.J. Stroud should be angry at the Texans due to a major disservice they just did to him

Every once in a while NFL teams do something wild that makes you wonder what they were thinking. The Houston Texans just did that and QB C.J. Stroud shouldn’t be happy at all with them.
Stroud hit the ground running in the NFL as a rookie with a stellar season. The former Ohio State star took a step back last season but is still one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL.
After a step back last season, the Texans have decided to make life tougher for Stroud, who will now play in 2025 without his top offensive lineman.
Houston has traded star LT Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders along with a fourth-round pick. The Texans are receiving back a 2026 second-round pick, a 2026 fourth-round pick, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2025 seventh-round pick. The move was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Tunsil allowed just two sacks last season and was the fourth-best pass blocker in the NFL at his position, according to Pro Football Focus. The move is an obvious cap space-saving move, but it is still a silly one. Risking the health of your quarterback is a tough pill to swallow and the Texans will be doing that by placing a lesser talent out there when they could have prevented it.
Stroud was sacked 38 times as a rookie and that number jumped to 52 in 2024. Caleb Williams was the only other quarterback in the NFL that was sacked more and he was brought down 68 times as a rookie. The Chicago Bears went out and addressed their offensive line in a big way already in free agency. What Houston just did is the exact opposite.
Year No. 3 is a crucial one for quarterbacks and it is one where Stroud will look to rebound from a step back last year. Stroud threw 23 touchdowns to five interceptions with 4,108 passing yards as a rookie. Houston ran the ball better in 2024, but Stroud’s production dropped to 3,727 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Now, Stroud is set to have a new blindside blocker to his left and it isn’t going to be an All-Pro talent. Houston just performed a major disservice to their franchise QB.
