Things did not go Ohio State’s way in October when they were on the road playing Oregon. The Buckeyes now have a great opportunity in front of them against the Ducks on the big stage.

When Ohio State and Oregon battle it out in the Rose Bowl, it’ll be for a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinal. That came back in October and played a part in the Big Ten standings, but it doesn’t compare to how meaningful this game is.

Jan. 1 may be giving us a game between the top two teams in college football, that is just how the bracket shook out. Heading into that game, the Buckeyes seem to have the right mindset.

"We know how the last time went," Ohio State DE J.T. Tuimoloau said on Friday. "We understand that everything is at stake right now. Fighting to wear an Ohio State jersey for the next game, that’s what's at stake. Being able to represent this state and this team. We understand what is on the line. We're just hungry and blessed that we get this opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl."

Tuimoloau and the Buckeyes defense showed up big as a whole against Tennessee in the first round. Ohio State’s pass rush was phenomenal with four sacks and Tuimoloau had two of those. The senior is up to eight sacks on the season to lead the Buckeyes. His roommate Jack Sawyer had 1.5 sacks against Tennessee and is up to six on the season.

Ohio State did not sack Dillon Gabriel a single time when they marched up the first time in Oregon’s 32-31 lead. The Buckeyes have to be better on defense and that is no secret.

The win over Tennessee helped ease things a bit after the loss to Michigan in the final game of the regular season. Beating the Big Ten Champions and No. 1 team would go a long way for the Buckeyes. If Ohio State can pull it off, you will see them as the trendy pick to win it all out of the final four teams.
