Ohio State needed some big stops from the defense to take down Penn State in Week 10 of the college football season. Two goalline stands by the Buckeyes helped them pick up a 20-13 win on the road.

It was known that the Buckeyes defense was going to have to be strong on the road if Ohio State was going to win.

Coming away from the game, Ohio State pass rusher and future NFL draft pick J.T. Tuimoloau has great confidence in where the defense is going.

“I think it just shows who we are. It shows what the Silver Bullets can be and what we’re capable of,” Tuimoloau said after the big win and defensive performance. “There’s a lot more left in the tank. I think this is just a preview of what’s to come.”

Tuimoloau himself stepped up against Penn State, a team that he has played well against in his college career. The senior had six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a half sack in the 20-13 win over the Nittany Lions.

The Buckeyes held Penn State to just 270 total yards and 150 of those came through the air. Ohio State’s defense only allowed six points on two field goals, with the other Penn State touchdown coming on an interception return off of Will Howard.

“You’ve got give Jim and the entire staff credit on defense for their preparation going into this game,” head coach Ryan Day said after the game. “Penn State does an excellent job of changing formations, motioning, different looks. But it comes down to the players. Coaches can put you in a situation, but the players gotta go do it. They did it. I’m proud of them.”

Ohio State is giving up just 12 points a game this season on defense and they will need another big performance in a couple of weeks when they host a very good Indiana team.
