Ohio State’s back was against the wall after losing to Michigan last November. Heading into the College Football Playoff, it was unknown if the Buckeyes would bounce back against the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Buckeyes came out and dominated the game from start to finish, ending up winning 42-17. They were able to rotate plenty of depth late in the game and ran away with it.
On Jon Gruden’s “Gruden’s QB Class”, Ohio State QB Will Howard made an appearance and shared some thoughts on what Tennessee did before the game, that led him to believe the Buckeyes were going to cruise.
“The thing is [that] they came out with their shirts off, and they ran over to the opposite end zone, and they immediately put them back on,” said Howard. “I was like what the f*** are these clowns doing? At that moment I knew we had them.”
Howard was terrific against the Volunteers by completing 24-of-29 passes for 311 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He added 37 rushing yards and made his first of four College Football Playoff wins in the process.
It was a cold night in Columbus that night and a group of Vols’ players came out slabbed up in Vaseline with no shirts on. Perhaps it was to show they were there and they could handle the cold, which was a question before the game started. The cold ended up not mattering and the Buckeyes rolled.
