When Ohio State replaced Kyle McCord with Will Howard going into the 2024 season, expectations were limited due to Howard not being a household name.
Howard came into Columbus and was everything that Ohio State wanted at quarterback. The one-year stay in Columbus for Howard worked out perfectly with a National Championship.
After five seasons of college football, Howard is moving into the NFL, where he was able to raise his draft stock while with the Buckeyes.
Howard’s one season with Ohio State, he was able to work closely with new Las Vegas Raiders OC Chip Kelly, who recently left the Buckeyes. As it turns out, the Raiders are a team that needs a quarterback as well.
Howard leaves Ohio State looking to be a projected third to fourth-round selection in April’s draft. The Raiders could draft a quarterback in the top 10 of the draft, however, this is not a strong draft class for the position. Finding value in the later rounds could be key for finding a quarterback to develop. Kelly landing back in the NFL and teaming up with a familiar QB to develop behind a veteran makes sense.
Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and completed 73 percent of his passes with Ohio State in 2024. Howard threw 10 interceptions and added seven touchdowns with his legs.
At Kansas State, Howard had a 48-25 touchdown to interception ratio in 34 games. Howard was able to become a more complete quarterback at Ohio State while being surrounded by more talent.
The Senior Bowl just wrapped up last week and Howard opted to not participate in it due to the College Football Playoff run. Howard still has the draft process to go through and that will factor into where he ends up.
If it ends up being a team like the Raiders, the connection is obvious as to why he will have landed there.
