Ohio State accomplished what they needed to in Week 13 to move to 10-1 on the season. Beating No. 5 Indiana was a must for the Buckeyes to reach their goal of a Big Ten championship game.
Still, Ohio State has Michigan to take care of next. After losing to Michigan the last three times they have played, the need to beat the Wolverines is at an all-time high.
Michigan will come into Columbus with a 6-5 record and just dismantled Northwestern, 50-6. Ohio State QB Will Howard will have his first and only game in the rivalry next week. Howard is looking forward to getting it done against the Wolverines for good reason.
“I want this for them so bad because they’ve been here,” Howard said of his teammates. “I’ve seen it from a distance and I feel it and I’m a part of it now. I want this for me, too, but I want this for those guys. I want it for Coach Day to shut up the haters. Be able to go out there and say this is the Ohio State Buckeyes.”
Coach Day has faced plenty of scrutiny over the past few seasons. When Ohio State does not beat Michigan, it is a major issue within the state. The expectations for the Buckeyes are always to beat Michigan and compete to win it all.
"I'm stoked [and] fired up. This one is for those guys that came back, this one is for Buckeye Nation,” Howard said. “I feel that hurt. You can say anything about records, this is always going to be a close game. I want this for those guys so bad. Shut up the haters and be able to go out there and say, 'Man, this is the Ohio State Buckeyes.' This is the biggest game of our season and I'm looking forward to it."
Michigan won a National Championship last season a few games after defeating Ohio State 30-24. It was Jim Harbaugh’s final season in Ann Arbor and Sherrone Moore now leads the Wolverines program.
Ohio State and Michigan will play at noon next Saturday on Fox. As Howard said, throw out the records because this game just might be a battle like it always is.
