Ohio State did a lot of work this offseason to keep their roster intact and went out and added pieces from the transfer portal. Overall, it is one of the best rosters you’ll see in college football, and with that has come high expectations for the Buckeyes in 2024.

The Buckeyes have not gotten it done recently. Three straight losses to Michigan and not making the College Football Playoff last year are both things that can’t happen in Columbus.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum laid out a path to where the Buckeyes would likely be firing Ryan Day in 2024 if one thing plays out a certain way.

"If he beats Michigan and has a good run in the playoffs, maybe not a championship, I think most people move on,” explained Finebaum on WJOX. “But if he loses to Michigan and then suffers an early loss in the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if he got fired, in spite of his record."

Three straight losses are tough to stomach for Buckeye fans with the way that Ohio State has dominated the series of late. A player like C.J. Stroud was never able to beat Michigan as the starter and that is hard to believe.

"His biggest hurdle is Michigan. And that's only because that game has been valued so highly because of three straight losses," Finebaum said.

Day and the Buckeyes will get their chance against a Michigan team that lost much of what they had on last year’s National Championship-winning team. Of course, Ohio State has to take care of the rest of its schedule, but we all know the postseason for them starts in the final week of the regular season.
