Ohio State is well aware it is a tough path that they must travel to take to win a National Championship this season. That will begin on Dec. 21 when the Buckeyes host the Tennessee Volunteers.
There were some unhappy Buckeye fans with the draw that the team got and the path that they must take. If the Buckeyes get past the Vols, they will have to play No. 1 Oregon. That will give Ohio State a chance to get revenge against the Ducks, who they lost to back in October. From there, the Buckeyes would play either Clemson, Texas, or Arizona State if they were to make it that far.
One person who isn’t too happy about Ohio State fans’ reactions is talk show host Rich Eisen, who is a Michigan graduate.
"Ohio State fans are complaining because that's what they do," said Eisen recently. "Because they have a tough opponent in Tennessee and Penn State, which Ohio State beat, Penn State has a home game against SMU. And if they win it, they take on Boise State while Ohio State's got a much tougher [first round] opponent in Tennessee, arguably, and if they win, they gotta take on Oregon.”
Ohio State fans are no different than any other fanbase, they get up in arms easily. The Buckeyes’ loss to Michigan is all they have to blame. Without that, they had a chance to capture a first-round bye. The Buckeyes have to now handle their business with the cards they were dealt.
The bright side is that the Buckeyes will have a home game for the first time ever during the CFP. It will be a great chance for fans to make an impact and to be heard. Ohio State has to win this game against the Vols, or things could be flipped upside down for Ryan Day.
Eisen’s message will not sit well with fans and it probably shouldn’t. At the end of the day, we are going to remember what the football team does on the field. If Ohio State can make a run, and even win a National Championship, everyone will forget about the loss to Michigan and the road they had to take to the final game.
