Ohio State may be the hottest team in college football now, but none of that matters going into the matchup against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

The Buckeyes have rolled through Tennessee and Oregon, but those games are in the past. The Longhorns are the last team standing in between the Buckeyes and a trip to the National Championship.

On Thursday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day shared the thought that nothing the Buckeyes have done to this point matters, as well.

"Nothing that Ohio State has done or Texas has done is gonna have any impact on this game. Zero. Every single week the slate is wiped clean and you have to start from scratch again,” Day explained during his media availability. “There is a lot of opinions out there of what to expect, but it's ultimately going to come down to the players and who can play."

Ohio State has been nothing short of impressive leading up to the game against Texas. The Buckeyes had 500 yards of offense against Oregon and outscored the opposition 83-38 in two games during the College Football Playoff.

None of that matters now though, as just the game against Texas has to be the focus for Ohio State. The loss to Michigan is in the rearview, but there is no doubt it has helped fuel this team to be where they are at.

Ohio State will need continued success from the passing offense with the connection between Will Howard and Jeremiah Smith. Smith has four touchdowns in two games during this CFP run.

The Buckeyes have the right approach going in that it is a clean slate, it is the humble approach that they need. We will see if it has an impact, as Texas and the Buckeyes will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
