The Ohio State Buckeyes will soon have to navigate the transfer portal when it opens for two weeks in early January. With how the NCAA calendar is set up, they’ll have that to handle while they also hope to still be competing for a national championship in the College Football Playoff

There’s one thing that is investable in college football and that is the transfer portal. Teams lose and look to gain players from the portal every year and that’ll be no different this time around for Ohio State. While many players around the country already know they’re entering the portal, a few Buckeyes stand out on offense as potential departures.

QB Lincoln Kienholz

Kienholz is a former four-star recruit and has served as the backup of the Buckeyes for this season behind Julian Sayin. Kienholz competed for the starting job with Sayin through the offseason and ultimately didn’t win that job. Now soon to be finishing up his third season with the program, Kienholz would be a better fit to go start somewhere during his fourth season of college football next year. Ohio State’s backup has 250 passing yards and one touchdown in 12 appearances in his college career.

RB James Peoples

Peoples entered the season thought to be the starting running back for the Buckeyes. That was never the case, as CJ Donaldson was against Texas, then freshman Bo Jackson broke onto the scene shortly after. Peoples has been the No. 3 and even No. 4 running back for the Buckeyes at points this season. The former Texas high school standout has 344 rushing yards to go along with three touchdowns this season. Jackson and freshman Isaiah West have shown they’re the future of the room in Columbus. Unless Peoples wants to compete as depth in Columbus, he could be playing elsewhere next August.

WR Mylan Graham

Graham is a former five-star wideout recruit if Brian Hartline who is the prime target to transfer from the room. The sophomore has 93 yards receiving on six catches this season and has been unable to crack much playing time. Despite being highly touted coming into the league, Graham has been behind Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss this season. We’ve even seen David Adolph and freshman Quincy Porter play over him at times this year. A fresh start may be ideal for Graham in 2025.
