Last week news broke that Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown would be entering the transfer portal. That alone made Julian Sayin the favorite to be next year’s starting quarterback in Columbus if he wasn’t already.

However, the first worry here was that Brown would be leaving Columbus once he entered the portal. Since then it has been rumored that Brown would be sticking around for the College Football Playoff. Head coach Ryan Day confirmed as much on Monday, that Brown would finish the season with the Buckeyes.

“Julian is getting a lot of reps in there, but Devin right now is the backup quarterback,” Day said of the backup quarterback position and where it currently stands.

Brown is still in the portal and will find his next school once the season ends for Ohio State, whenever that may be. It is a very unselfish move by Brown, who could be looking out for himself and focusing on his next stop right now. Instead, he is preparing as if he could have to play for the Buckeyes still, a team that he knows he won’t be with next season.

Ohio State has all focus on Tennessee currently and if all goes to plan, Howard will be the only quarterback the Buckeyes will rely on throughout their CFP run. Brown has completed 10-of-19 passes for 108 yards in eight appearances this season. The Buckeyes were able to get Brown some run in multiple games this season where they were up big.

After losing the final game of the regular season, Ohio State has a fresh slate and everything remains in front of them.

“Once you get into the playoffs, it’s a brand new start,” Day said Monday. “I think that’s what our guys have recognized now, the fact they have earned the opportunity to play in the playoffs."
