Ohio State can breathe a bit after picking up their first big win of the season. The Buckeyes went on the road and beat Penn State 20-13 and it felt like something they had to do.

After losing to Oregon a few weeks ago by just a point — then not playing well and barely holding on against Nebraska — things felt like they were slipping quite a bit.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day confirmed after beating Penn State that the temperature was indeed turned up a bit and the Buckeyes were indeed at a ‘crossroads’ in their season.

“This was a crossroads for us,” a happy Day said after the win. “This was a big game for us for a lot of reasons. We had to find a way to get a stop and get the extra first down. That's what it is going to come down to moving forward. Guys came back to this team for a reason, to win the rivalry game, win the Big Ten Championship, and win a national championship.”

Ohio State trailed 10-0 right away in this game after Penn State got an opening drive field goal, then picked off Buckeye QB Will Howard and returned it for a touchdown. The Buckeyes answered in the way you would expect a team to do that wants to win a National Championship.

Prior to the season, it was known that road games against Oregon and Penn State would tell a lot about this Ohio State team. The Buckeyes very well could have won that one in Eugene, Oregon. Beating Penn State is a good measuring stick of where the team is currently at. James Franklin has always struggled against the Buckeyes, but that is a very good team he has with an elite defense.

At 7-1 on the season now, everything remains in front of Ohio State. Key games against Indiana and Michigan are still ahead of them before they have to worry about postseason play.

"There's a smile right here on my face, and I'm really proud of this team and their physicality," Ryan Day told Jenny Taft on the Fox broadcast after the game. "It feels really good. We're gonna have some fun in Columbus tonight."
