Ryan Day drops final Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate update before the Ohio State Buckeyes play Michigan
Ryan Day has given one of the last updates on the status of Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate.
It’s just about that time for the greatest rivalry in sports to take place between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines.
Ohio State enters the matchup at 11-0 and has breezed through its schedule, but all eyes are now on whether the Buckeyes can snap their four-game skid against the Wolverines. The biggest storyline throughout the week has centered on the health of their star wideouts.
Ryan Day gives final update on Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate
Neither Smith nor Tate played last time out against Rutgers, and Tate has missed the last three games. After the Buckeyes arrived in Michigan on Friday evening, Day revealed that both players made the trip.
“They are on the trip and looking for a good night of preparation,” Day said Friday night. “Just flew in. It was a great flight, and looking forward to having great preparation tonight, and we’ll continue to do that all the way to kickoff, but they’re here and excited.”
Both players remain questionable for the road matchup against Michigan. Tate has missed the last three games after dealing with tightness in his lower body before the Purdue game on Nov. 8. Smith played a quarter against UCLA the following weekend before exiting with what Day described as a nagging injury.
As the week has progressed, Day has sounded increasingly optimistic about the two suiting up. There’s no doubt that QB Julian Sayin needs his two-headed monster at outside receiver against the Wolverines. Ohio State has a balanced offense, but it reaches another level when its top playmakers on the perimeter are available.
Ohio State and Michigan will kick off at noon on Saturday, with the Buckeyes looking to lock up a spot in the Big Ten Championship with a win. There’s been plenty of talk throughout the week about the Buckeyes being ready for this moment—soon we’ll find out whether they’ll have their star pass catchers to help make it happen.
