Ryan Day compares incoming Ohio State football freshman to NFL star, and he may end up shocking people in his first college season
The Buckeyes have an incoming freshman who is receiving comparison to Tyreek Hill.
The Ohio State Buckeyes brought in a 28-man recruiting class and while Chris Henry Jr. is the headliner, another offensive player may be the most exciting.
Ohio State fought tooth and nail to get 2026 ATH Legend Bey out of Texas and in Columbus. It took them flipping him twice from Tennessee, including after signing day. For good reason though, as head coach Ryan Day is clearly excited about him.
Ryan Day drops a bold statement on Legend Bey
“Legend Bey is a guy who is dynamite,” Day said recently. “I kinda call him maybe the poor man’s Tyreek Hill. I mean, he can go. And when you watch him last year play quarterback in Texas – five-touchdown games, six-touchdown games, just running around, making guys miss – he’s lightning in a bottle. He can do a bunch of different things for us.”
Bey receiving comparisons to Hill is lofty expectations being built early. If he’s ready to play, the incoming freshman will have a role in Year 1. Ohio State is looking to use Bey in the backfield and as a pass-catcher.
Ohio State could be heading toward playing Legend Bey early
“Excited to see him in the spring, kind of figure out how he can fit into the offense,” Day stated recently. “Now, he’s a freshman, but OK, he’s got the ability. So that’s the great thing about getting these guys in here at mid-year.”
They get to go through it, and by the time it gets to August and September, they’re not freshmen anymore. Now they gotta go, and they came here to play. So excited that that one worked out as well.”
Day mentioning that Bey is an early enrollee and could be ready by next fall is a good sign. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound playmaker will need to get going with the Ohio State weight and training program to leave a mark, but who’s to say he can’t?
Ohio State didn’t fight hard to land Bey for him to sit on the bench a couple of years. I expect he’ll see the field at points during the 2026 season before being a bigger part of things in 2027 when Jeremiah Smith is gone and the offense needs more explosiveness.
